Malware Removal

Or, if you prefer, just call me direct. I'm always happy to chat and answer questions.

Don’t get sold so easily

Is your site hacked? Do you think it may be hacked? This concern is naturally alarming and will have any good business owner in a vulnerable state. Sadly, sites like https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/ are what users typically get directed to for a site scan. Or other companies like https://www.sitelock.com/ In our experience we have found Securi will sometimes give a clean result on sites we KNOW were hacked. Sitelock is in cahoots with other hosting companies. Some hosting companies like Hostgator (back in the day) would actually do a security scan AND malware removal for free. It was beyond excellent customer service. Then Endurance International Group bought them out. This overnight became NOT free and they directed you to Sitelock. Sitelock charges and then gives a kickback to Hostgator. While they may be effective in their end promises of removing malware, the price reflects their awareness of your vulnerability. In other words, we feel it is a little on the high end.

How We Do It

If you are on our Security and Maintenance plan then such concerns are covered by that plan. We also run daily security checks to see if any known hacks are present. Furthermore, we also keep up-to-date on plugins used, and if the community has flagged any on your site for potential vulnerabilities. This, plus daily backups gives us the advantage against hackers and keeps you free from malware in the first place. Learn more about our security updates and a backup plan.

What happens if I do get hacked

If you do get hacked for any reason we’ll first revert your website back to the first safest backup. This keeps your site live while we can determine the best course of action. Yes, reverting back may lose some content, but this is better than losing the whole site. Often times the content needed on the hacked version lives okay in the database. Instead of cleaning the code for your WordPress and contributed plugin core, we simply replace these with community downloads, known to be free of malware. Your uploads folders we’ll scan and manually inspect as files can get placed there. Then we connect this cleaned codebase to the current database with all of your content. Pending no hacks made it to the database this should equal a cleaned site. If there is a hack in the database (like the addition of an admin user) those get cleaned manually in the database. In either case, your site will remain live through the backup system we have, and further efforts will be made to preserve all content in cases where some may be lost.
